It’s fair to say that in the battle of VOXI vs Smarty there are no losers, only winners – and those winners are the consumers who are getting a great deal. Both VOXI and Smarty offer an affordable means of surfing, streaming and staying in contact with friends and family.
Some mobile phone contracts might open opportunities to get a hold of the latest handset as part of a package deal. Others offer opportunities to regularly upgrade your smartphone to a brand-new model. However, having the latest tech is not the be-all and end-all for many of us. In fact, thousands of phone users in the UK admit to feeling stifled by having to “lock-in” to lengthy phone contracts for the sake of a handset.
Thankfully, for those who want flexibility, there are pay-monthly phone providers out there that offer a simpler way of staying connected. Two of these, VOXI and Smarty, are currently making waves in the press as alternatives to lengthy, expensive phone contract providers. For those who own their handsets outright, switching to either of these services could even represent some serious monthly savings – but which is the right choice? In this article, we’ll weigh up the pros and cons of each, as we go head-to-head with VOXI vs Smarty.
Both Smarty and VOXI offer generous data usage for similarly low costs. In fact, it’s possible to enjoy unlimited data on either platform for less than you’d expect to fork out on one of the UK’s major mobile phone providers.
Interestingly, VOXI comes with an attractive “endless social media” offer. If you’re constantly tweeting, sending snaps, sharing selfies on Instagram or keeping up to date with friends on WhatsApp, you’ll be able to do so without worrying about running out of data or being charged extra for the privilege. Understandably, this is bound to make VOXI popular amongst teenagers – and parents of teenagers who don’t want to commit to a long-term monthly contract for their children.
However, while VOXI’s clever marketing might be attractive to social-savvy youngsters, it’s worth pointing out that Smarty also offers a similar Unlimited Data plan. It’s a simple, but it gets the job done, and at an affordable rate too. It’s flexible, it’s transparent, and they’ll even give you money back for data that you don’t use! As far as data is concerned, it’s fair to say that pay monthly customers are spoilt for choice with both providers.
Signal coverage is a huge deal-breaker for all mobile phone owners, regardless of whether they’re looking for a contract or a pay-monthly deal. Online reviews are awash with horror stories of people who are frustrated with the lack of signal in their bedroom, or others who have to walk to the end of the street to make a call.
It’s therefore important to ensure your provider of choice will be able to provide you with adequate coverage – both at home and on the move. Thankfully, VOXI and Smarty are both powered by two of the UK’s largest networks, each of which promises connectivity levels of nearly 99% across the entirety of the country.
VOXI runs on Vodafone’s network, while Smarty is part of Three. Before choosing a provider, it might be beneficial to find out which company offers the most network uptime in your area. Thankfully, each provider makes this as simple as can be, with coverage maps highlighting connectivity levels across the entirety on the UK. A cursory glance suggests that everywhere except the most remote parts of the country are covered to a satisfactory level by both brands – but it’s worth checking just in case!
Most of us use our phones for far more than simply making calls and texting. Video chats, streaming, social media use and gaming are all huge factors in choosing a provider, and that means having at least 4G connectivity most of the time.
Both VOXI and Smarty offer 4G as standard (in Vodafone/Three areas covered by 4G signal at least), although VOXI is slightly ahead when it comes to 5G. The national 5G rollout is well underway, with Vodafone – and VOXI by proxy - already offering 5G in some of the UK’s major cities including London and Birmingham.
Smarty is on the precipice of rolling out 5G connectivity, with the brand advertising that it will be ready to make some exciting announcements soon. Users are invited to register their interest regarding 5G connectivity – and given that Three is already rolling out this new technology, it’s likely that Smarty users will be able to take advantage of ultra-fast streaming, gaming and web browsing sooner rather than later.
Despite Brexit, EU roaming rules still apply to both VOXI and Smarty users. This means using your phone as you would in the UK, and not paying a penny more in roaming charges. Calls and texts are unlimited on both platforms, and there’s no hidden charges or extra costs – however, both brands do have their own Fair Use policy, which you might want to read up on before travelling abroad.
Those travelling outside the EU might encounter additional charges for calls, dependent on their location and the destination of the call, although both companies offer affordable means of keeping in touch while abroad.
Need to make use of data on a laptop or other device? No problem – both VOXI and Smarty will allow you to connect other devices to you smartphone hotspot and make use of data when you need to work on the move – or if you simply want to share your data with other household members. Again, a Fair Use clause applies.
